My Digital Marketing Journey | How I Became a Digital Marketing Trainer
Hello everyone,
I’m Sinu P Sabu.
I’m a Digital Marketing Expert, SEO Specialist, Web Designer, and Digital Marketing Trainer based in Trivandrum, Kerala.
But the interesting thing is, I never planned to become a digital marketer.
So today, I want to share my journey with you — how I entered digital marketing, how I learned SEO, how my experience in Saudi Arabia and Bangalore shaped my career, and why I eventually decided to become a digital marketing trainer.
My Beginning – Saudi Arabia
A major part of my professional journey started when I was working in Saudi Arabia.
I had the opportunity to interact directly with clients, including Arabic-speaking clients, understand their requirements, communicate technical information, and help find solutions to their requirements.
That experience gradually increased my interest in technology, websites, and online platforms.
Actually, my interest in social media started much earlier.
When I was in college, I had an Orkut account.
At that time, Orkut was something really exciting.
Then Facebook came along.
Social media was going through a major transformation.
Businesses were not using social media the way they do today. Twitter was very popular at that time, and people using Twitter was even something we regularly heard about in the news.
But gradually, Facebook started growing.
Facebook Groups and Pages became popular, and businesses started using Facebook to attract and communicate with their audiences.
That was when I started noticing the potential of social media for business.
Websites Were Still the Main Focus
But during those early years, websites were still one of the most important digital assets for businesses.
And I started asking myself a question:
If a business has a website, how do we actually bring people to that website?
That question introduced me more deeply to Search Engine Optimization — SEO.
I wanted to generate better results for the company I was working with.
When I met clients and listened to their requirements, I sometimes felt that I didn’t know enough to give them the best possible solution.
And personally, I have always had this mindset:
If I am doing something, I want to do it properly.
So I started learning.
How I Learned SEO
At that time, we didn’t have AI tools like we have today.
Most of my learning came from searching on Google, reading blogs, watching videos, experimenting, and trying things on websites.
One of the resources that helped me a lot during my early SEO journey was Moz.
I used to read Moz articles and watch their videos and slowly understand different SEO concepts.
I started learning about things like:
Title tags.
Meta tags.
Meta descriptions.
Website optimization.
Content optimization.
Search visibility.
And many other SEO concepts.
But I didn’t want to learn SEO only theoretically.
I wanted to test what I was learning.
So I would make changes, observe the results, learn from them, and try again.
That practical experimentation became a very important part of my learning process.
Blogging Changed My Perspective
At one point, I created a Blogger account.
I started publishing posts about things I was learning.
I also shared useful links, videos, resources, and information that I thought could help others.
Initially, I was simply sharing information.
But then something interesting happened.
I noticed that people were actually visiting my blog.
And some of them were even sending me messages.
I remember thinking:
“How is this happening?”
People who didn’t know me were finding my content through search engines.
Nobody had personally told them about my blog.
They simply searched for something, found my content, and contacted me.
For me, that was almost like magic.
And that experience made me even more curious about SEO, blogging, search engines, content marketing, and digital marketing.
I wanted to understand how this whole system worked.
Moving to Bangalore
Eventually, I returned to India and later moved to Bangalore.
In Bangalore, I got opportunities to work in different digital marketing roles.
I worked as a Digital Marketing Executive, then as a Senior Digital Marketing Executive, and later as a Digital Marketing Manager.
This was another major stage in my career.
Bangalore exposed me to a completely different level of digital marketing.
Businesses were spending significant amounts of money on online advertising.
I had the opportunity to work with monthly advertising budgets running into lakhs of rupees.
My Experience with Paid Advertising
At that time, Facebook Ads were becoming extremely popular.
Google AdWords — which we now know as Google Ads — was also a major advertising platform.
I also worked with platforms such as Twitter Ads and LinkedIn Ads.
We continuously tested different platforms and campaigns.
We looked at the results and tried to understand which platform was actually working for a particular business.
Over time, when certain platforms produced weaker results for particular campaigns, we shifted more focus towards platforms such as Google and Facebook.
This experience taught me something very important:
Digital marketing is not about blindly using every platform.
It’s about understanding the business, understanding the audience, choosing the right platform, measuring the results, and continuously improving the strategy.
Becoming a Trainer
During this journey, another thought started developing in my mind.
I thought:
“Why don’t I teach what I have learned to other people?”
That was when I became interested in becoming a Digital Marketing Trainer.
But then COVID happened.
Like many other people, my plans and professional journey were affected.
Eventually, I got another opportunity to return to digital marketing training.
And that’s when I discovered something very important about myself.
I realised that I don’t just enjoy doing digital marketing.
I also really enjoy teaching digital marketing.
In fact, seeing another person understand something because of the way I explained it gives me a different kind of satisfaction.
How I Teach Digital Marketing
My teaching philosophy is quite simple.
I don’t want students to just memorize concepts.
I want them to understand why something works.
For example, when I teach SEO, I don’t want to simply say:
“You need to optimize the title tag.”
I want students to understand:
Why does the title tag matter?
How does Google understand it?
How does a user see it?
How can we write a better title?
And how does it relate to search intent?
I try to take technically complicated concepts and explain them in a simple way using examples.
Because I believe:
If you understand something properly, you don’t have to memorize it.
Real-World Learning
Another important part of my training approach is practical experience.
I don’t believe that digital marketing can be learned completely from textbooks.
Students need to understand how real businesses work.
How does a real client explain their requirement?
How do you understand a client’s problem?
How do you develop an SEO strategy?
How do you create a Google Ads campaign?
How do you communicate with a client?
How do you measure performance?
These are the kinds of questions students will face when they enter the industry.
So I try to introduce students to real-world requirements, practical projects, examples, and client situations wherever possible.
Because after completing a course, a student doesn’t face an exam every day.
They face real business problems.
And I want my students to be prepared for that.
My Biggest Reward as a Trainer
Over the years, many students who learned from me have gone on to work with different organizations, build their own projects, and start their own professional journeys.
And honestly, that gives me a lot of happiness.
For me, the biggest reward of being a trainer is not simply the money I earn from teaching.
It is seeing a student take what they learned, apply it, get a job, work with a company, start freelancing, or build something of their own.
When a student tells me,
“Sir, I finally understood it.”
That itself is a huge satisfaction.
Digital Marketing and Animal Welfare
There is also another important part of my life outside digital marketing.
That is animal welfare.
Animal welfare is something I am personally very passionate about.
I am also involved in large Facebook communities related to animal welfare.
So, for me, both areas are important.
Digital marketing is my profession.
Animal welfare is one of my passions.
And I am grateful that I have been able to contribute to both in different ways.
What I Do Today
Today, I work as a Digital Marketing Expert, SEO Specialist, Web Designer, and Digital Marketing Trainer.
I work across areas such as:
Search Engine Optimization
Google Ads
Meta Ads
Social Media Marketing
WordPress
Website development
Digital marketing strategy
Content and search marketing
And, of course, digital marketing training.
My goal is simple:
I want to make digital marketing easier to understand without making it less technical.
I want students to understand the fundamentals, practise them, work on real projects, and become confident enough to apply what they have learned.
My Vision as a Trainer
My biggest goal is to help students become practical and job-ready digital marketers.
I don’t want them to finish a course with only a certificate.
I want them to finish with knowledge.
I want them to be able to look at a business and ask:
Who is the target audience?
What is the business objective?
Which digital channel should we use?
What strategy should we implement?
How do we measure the result?
And most importantly:
How can we improve it?
That is the kind of thinking I want to develop in my students.
What I Have Learned from My Journey
Looking back, my journey started with something as simple as using Orkut during college.
Then came Facebook.
Then websites.
Then SEO.
Then blogging.
Then working with clients in Saudi Arabia.
Then professional digital marketing roles in Bangalore.
Then managing large advertising campaigns.
And eventually, teaching digital marketing.
None of this was a perfectly planned journey.
It happened through curiosity, learning, experimentation, opportunities, and continuous improvement.
And I think that is one of the most important lessons I can share.
Digital Marketing Never Stops Changing
Digital marketing is not a field where you can learn everything once and stop.
Google changes.
Meta changes.
Advertising platforms change.
Search behaviour changes.
Technology changes.
And now, AI is changing the way people search and discover information.
So we have to keep learning.
And that is something I continue to do even today.
Because I don’t believe that a digital marketing trainer should ever stop being a student.
If you are a student who is thinking about learning digital marketing, I want to tell you one thing:
Don’t be afraid of the technical side of digital marketing.
You don’t have to understand everything on day one.
Start with the basics.
Understand the concepts.
Practise.
Make mistakes.
Analyse what happened.
Try again.
And gradually, you will become better.
That’s exactly how I learned.
And I’m still learning.
My journey from Saudi Arabia to Bangalore, from SEO and blogging to digital advertising, and eventually to digital marketing training has taught me that curiosity can become a career when you keep learning and applying what you learn.
I’m Sinu P Sabu, and this is my digital marketing journey.
